About Rebecca Gallant - Web Designer
and Fine Artist
In my family I have an artistic mother, father and grandmother
- so the ability gallops through my heritage. I started at
a very young age drawing and painting. My family, friends
and school teachers were always very supportive.
However, when I graduated high school in 1987, I was under
the misconception that you couldn't make any real money as
an artist. I went to Fitchburg State College as a Psychology
major. But then I changed majors to Communications, then Graphic
Design. Finally I changed schools to U. Mass Lowell and majored
in Fine Art. My total college attendance spanned six years,
but because of my constant changes in majors, I didn't get
to complete my degree before the money ran out. It was at
that moment that I realized that one doesn't actually need
a degree in art to be a professional artist. One only needs
a good portfolio.
It was my intention at first to pursue a career as a fine
artist. I wanted to design book jacket covers and do other
creative commission work. I attended many art shows, won numerous
awards and gained much recognition. However, as I started
becoming established in the fine arts field, I found I was
unhappy. It prevented me from creating my own personal pieces
of art. I was so busy with commission work, I had no time
for any of my own ideas.
In 1997, I decided to change paths and pursue a career
in web designing. This afforded me the opportunity to still
have a creative job, and allowed me to express my own artistic
creativity with my fine art. I am a self taught web designer
and I currently work full time at home in lovely Londonderry,
New Hampshire. You can view my fine art on-line here.
Current hobbies include fencing, painting, drawing and
role-playing. I'm married to a wonderful, loving and creative
husband. No kids as yet, but my two cats fill that role quite
well.
